about
"Do what you love. Know your own bone; gnaw at it, bury it, unearth it, and gnaw it still."
~Henry David Thoreau

First Story Jumper is a modern rock band hailing from Washington State. FSJ's diverse range of alternative and electro-acoustic style is both energetic and inventive while remaining open, honest, and accessible. The blend of organic and electronic offers a fresh take on Alternative Rock. Intelligent lyrics press forward as both unique and accessible to a wide audience. FSJ’s music resonates, it’s relatable and sincere.

FSJ started in 2006 as a cross state collaboration by principle songwriter and guitarist Kenneth McLarin, who resides in Seattle, with bassist Michael Ninemire and Drummer Eric Holje from Spokane. While working out songwriting demos they recruited guitarist Jae Ham and vocalist David Arnold to round out the group. Jae and Kenneth both shared a love of writing, recording, and the production process, as both have extensive experience working with artists in the Pacific Northwest.

There was an immediate draw and love of the early demo material, but it wasn't until the entire band contributed that a unique soundscape developed. Produced and recorded by the band, their debut self titled album has been released online and will soon be available on CD.

The members of FSJ have been inspired by many modern rock bands that combine passion, rhythm, melody, love of production and song craft. Their sound deftly blends many styles and influences while carving out a unique and true identity. The writing is personal and emotional and their vision of performance has allowed them to truly stand out. FSJ Combines the pop edge of Blink 182, the melodic and lyrical depth of Death Cab and the melodic prowess of Augustana. FSJ has been influenced by many artists such as Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, Mute Math, BT, Switchfoot, Nada Surf, Thrice & Coldplay. During the writing and recording process they worked to define their own space, a collide-scope of electro-acoustic anthem rock, if you will.

This first story is barely on its opening chapter, the band is energized and ready to face the future with open arms.

Track Name: Get Me
bleed through all this time
like right now
break through the single wall
and I cant hear a sound
the beggar in your eyes
the broken down disguise
you don’t belong
in this state of your mind

unlock the door
don’t throw it all away
so black the night
before the break of day

and I’ll find a way
to get some urgency
and I’ll find a way
for you to get me

somewhere there’s the best of me
and you know
I’m balanced on this craters edge
but I will not let go
the beggar in my eyes
the broken down disguise
I don’t belong
in this state of your mind

we ride the golden wings
of chaos
who has the will to bring them down
life in the mezzanine
couldn’t find that release
and I wont buy I wont buy that belief
Track Name: Daylight
this boy is deaf again
yeah believe it friend
no matter what, what you say
please don’t you sympathize
yeah I realize you’re gonna do it anyway
you must be hypnotized
no I can see just what’s behind those eyes

chasing daylight to the other side
my soul condition needs to bathe in light

that soft image is a lie
they got you baby they got you one more time
love knows there a dire need
for a penitent child and a bended knee

and darker is the road
that we must travel down
shadows spin our heads
reunion is the sound
and oh the simple lies
the irony of faith
lest we not forget
the price for pity’s sake
listen to me now
the error and grief
just what did it take
that I could be set free
Track Name: Grace Drive Thru
Batten the hatches
the seasons upon us
ease it about
or be cast aside
yeah I just cant find my bearings
in this autopilot life
I’m adrift in time

all I can do is let grace drive thru
all I can do is let grace drive

weather’s waiting I’ll bail and face it
I’ll fix my eyes on the rising light
no distant shore no morning glory
if it gets the best of me
it will get the best of me

all I can do is let grace drive thru
all I can do is let grace drive

I’ll fix my eyes on the rising light
Track Name: Right One
your soul has the fire to act
so light it up right where you’re at
If we do seek what will we find
that all that we wanted is love, love
and all that we got is a crutch

stand up/face the day
before you get tired
don’t speak/draw the line

cause I’ll never be
the right one
cause I’ll never be
the right one

unleash your cliched regrets
at the same place where we first met
why do we seek cant we find
that all that we wanted is love, love
and all that we got is a crutch

feel the wind blow with your finger
tell me now do you know
if it always comes and it always goes
there is much time
there is no time for a sunny day
it beckons all of us
calls us all by name
feeling it now
feeling it come round yeah pull us in
it’s calling you and I
calling us my friend
there is no sign
there is a sign of a better day
and it’s you my friend
I see your face again

stand up
face the day

cause I’ve got to be
the right one
I’ve got to be
the right one
Track Name: B-Side
Those are tears
you fight away
relics of the other day
Is it me?
lost track of time
I do believe
my eyes are blind

we rise above falling on our sword
we cradle love before the babe is born

and I’m the one that let is slide
living my life on the b side.
save your breath
you take mine
cause I don’t mind

cast a glare
no brush aside
I’m just not privy
to your beautiful mind
why don’t you tell us what it’s like
and leave this all behind
it aint pretty no it aint right
but there’s a guilty man about to die
why don’t you tell us what it’s like
and leave us all behind

do we know the company
do we know the gravity
Track Name: Break
those reasons got you down
it’s brought you to your knees
it’s not quite what you wanted
but really what you need
and buried in the depths
we find the will to say
never mind the monsters
they aren’t real anyway

these feelings got you now
I hope that you will find
in staring down forever
an old familiar sign
and buried underground
we need the light of day
let’s fiddle with the static
in a good o’l fashioned way

your voice is breaking up
and I am breaking down

will I ever see you again?
like I used to
the warm arms of a friend
how I’ve missed you

your voice is in the wind
will speak to me
your voice is in the wind
will speak to me
your voice is in the wind
it’s brought me to my knees
it’s not quite what I wanted
but really what I need
Track Name: American Something
my stereotype is grey

my indexing is all worn out

it won't chase these blues away

In the land of the free

more bullets for my magazine

american cliché

the rise and fall of everything extraordinary

yet I’m still selling

these Sovereign rights do stain

the sycophants’ may rule till the day of reckoning

yet I’m still selling, I’m still selling out

we peddle useless fame

we're building up the fairy tale

that all should know your name

and we all wear black and blue

We all should know the obvious, me over you

is everything so grand

living to supply their demands

american cliché

the life and times of anything but ordinary

yet I’m still selling

these Sovereign rights do stain

the sycophants’ may rule till the day of reckoning

yet I’m still selling, yeah I’m still selling out
Track Name: Waste Time
There’s no doubt he’s trying to kill me
And I’m back against the wall
And he rises up to touch me
And so we all must take a fall
And I barely made the preview
The best part of the show

Yeah I’d like to waste time
Cause he is no friend of mine

And he ratchets up the pressure
On another close, close call
And you might say he's a stalker
Track Name: Wheel
so here it is
find yourself to lose your soul again
fate is a loyal friend
and live or die
we scale to find the everlasting heights
oh the roaring light

and I’m still waiting
rolling on this wheel can I get back
and I’m still praying
rolling on this wheel can I get back

So there it went
find your soul to lose yourself again
fate is not friend
so dress in black
let’s bury this and take a step back
oh the roaring light
I said oh the roaring light
Track Name: Return to Sender
it’s not over and you think it is
well it’s simply something that simply is
grows old slowly at first
it’s not over and the time it kills
there’s always something a bitter pill
you won’t be safe in the past
the demons last

day side everything is gone
I’m not the only one
return to sender
grey side and your upside down
I never felt the ground
return to sender

I’ve got time and my blurry eyes
I’ve got time yeah I’m living tonight
I’ve got time, always time for you, baby
it’s not over and you think it is
it’s simply something that simply is
thank God for this time we can’t resist

day side everything is wrong
I’m not the only one
return to sender
day side and your upside down
I never felt the ground
return to sender
